Rangers vs Celtic

The first Old Firm derby of the season takes place on Sunday at Ibrox in a fixture where both Rangers and Celtic will be looking to respond after respective European failures.

The two Glasgow giants will both be competing in the Europa League this season after falling short in Champions League qualifying.

Rangers were humbled by Club Brugge as they lost 9-1 on aggregate, as an early dismissal for Max Aarons in the second leg of that tie opened the floodgates for a huge Brugge win.

Celtic were the clear favourites to qualify ahead of Kairat Almaty but ended up losing out on penalties in Kazakhstan on Tuesday after two goalless games.

That makes this Glasgow derby a tough one to call but based on the recent meetings between these two sides I’m going for Rangers to at least avoid defeat in the double chance market.

The Gers are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Celtic in normal time, while they are unbeaten in three against their city rivals at Ibrox.

Rangers have suffered three European defeats this season but they haven’t lost a domestic fixture since April, a run stretching 13 games.

Celtic are yet to lose this term and they haven’t lost any fixture in normal time since April. However, Rangers are perhaps more up to speed this term after facing Panathinaikos and Plzen in European qualifiers, while Celtic haven’t had any serious tests as yet aside from their own Champions league qualifier, where they were on the wrong end of an upset.
