Adam Senior has been recalled from his loan spell at Chorley to add defensive cover in Jones’ absence, while Lloyd Isgrove, Josh Sheehan and Andrew Tutte remain sidelined by injury.
Gillingham sit 22nd in the League One table – three points behind 20th-placed Wimbledon, who have played a game fewer.
The Gills enter the game on the back of a 2-0 win at Lincoln thanks to goals from Vadaine Oliver and Ben Thompson.
Wanderers have faced Gillingham 19 times in their history, with a record of nine wins, three draws and seven defeats.
The Gills recorded a convincing 5-0 victory when the sides last met at the Priestfield Stadium back in August 2019.
The points were shared when the sides met earlier this season following an entertaining 2-2 draw at the UniBol.
John Akinde and Kyle Dempsey struck in a ruthless four-minute spell to give the visitors a commanding lead at the break.
Dapo Afolayan pulled one back four minutes from time before Kieran Lee scored in stoppage time to rescue a point.
Ian Evatt wants to see greater communication with referees and officials outside of matchdays for greater consistency and understanding around decisions as he revealed a complaint levelled against Sebastian Stockbridge is now in the hands of the authorities.
Evatt alleged that match referee Stockbridge made comments during the 2-0 loss on the road to MK Dons last weekend which the Wanderers camp deem as ‘not acceptable’ in terms of their nature.
The Bolton boss had suggested the complaints could be reported and taken further, though the referee did apologise for whatever was said at Stadium MK.
Speaking ahead of today’s clash against Gillingham, Evatt revealed that a complaint was made but that as far as he is concerned, the matter is closed and in the hands of the relevant authorities, should they wish to act.

The Bolton boss has called for greater consistency among officials as a team, which includes fourth officials who managers typically have the most dialogue with in matches owing to being on the touchline between the dugouts.
Evatt revealed the approach of fourth officials varies from game to game and that some are helpful one week, and that others are not the following matchday.
The Wanderers manager is well aware of the difficulties surrounding the job, but he wants there to be greater consistency and teamwork displayed by the officiating group on matchdays
