Goals from Chris Forino and a penalty from Joe Jacobson saw the Chairboys cancel out goals from Hartlepool’s Mark Cullen and Luke Molyneux to send the sides to Adams Park to battle it out again for a place in the Second Round of the FA Cup.

Wycombe started brightly and had the first chance, a Jordan Obita long throw was met by Forino, but his header never troubled Jonathan Mitchell in the Hartlepool goal.

Soon after, Sullay Kaikai was slipped through by Daryl Horgan, but his low cross was unable to be turned home by Sam Vokes in a tricky position.

A few moments later, Hartlepool had a golden chance to take the lead. The lively Molyneux curled a ball in from the right, but somehow Neil Byrne could not poke the ball home with the goal at his mercy.

Pools continued to expose the wide channels, and this time a low cross from David Ferguson found Cullen but he could only turn his shot over the bar.

Hartlepool’s pressure paid off just before half time. Mark Cullen was slipped through by the Matty Daly in the box, and he calmly placed the ball past Adam Przybek into the back of the net to send the home side into the break with the lead.

A breathless second half followed. First Horgan drove forward and slid through Kaikai, whose low cross found Vokes but his shot was blocked for a corner.

Hartlepool responded quickly, breaking down the right flank, Reagan Ogle beating Obita for pace and putting a low cross in for Molyneux, however the striker could only slide the ball wide of the post.

The Chairboys got the equaliser they’d been pushing for on 63 minutes, with superb work from Curtis Thompson who seemed boxed in by the corner flag, but he managed to curl in a delightful ball which met the head of Forino to level up the tie.

Just two minutes after the equaliser, Hartlepool retook the lead. Good work down the left saw a ball crossed in for an unmarked Molyneux to turn home to make it 2-1.

Wycombe were living dangerously and were nearly 3-1 behind when a ball reached Ogle on the edge of the box, only for his powerful drive to be well saved by Przybek.

Wycombe continued to fight and won a penalty with 18 minutes to play. Forino leapt highest for a header in the Pools box but was taken out by in the process by goalkeeper Mitchell and following a consultation with his linesman the spot kick was given. Jacobson stepped up and placed the ball beautifully into the top left-hand corner of the net to level the proceedings once more.

Wycombe came on strong in the final 15 minutes, but it was still either teams game to win. Jason McCarthy flashed a cross across the face of goal, and a quick counter attack by Horgan and Anis Mehmeti saw the ball eventually cleared following panic in the Pools box.

Wycombe piled the pressure on in added time to try and find the elusive winner, but in the end, there was nothing to separate the sides and they will do it all again in a replay at Adams Park.
